TUownCloud is our service for easy file sharing and collaborative editing. On 23 April 2025, we will be updating to the sister product Nextcloud – with the usual advantages and, at the same time, improved performance and security. This is how we are setting a clear example for data sovereignty and open source technologies. And the best thing is: almost nothing will change for you – except for the new name. From now on, it will be called TUcloud.

What does this mean in practice?

• Maintenance period: On 23 April 2025, TUcloud will be temporarily unavailable due to the changeover. To be on the safe side, please plan for the service to be unavailable throughout that day.
• Complete data preservation: Existing files (including versions and deleted files) will be fully preserved.
• Accessibility: The new address is tucloud.tuwien.ac.at. The previous address owncloud.tuwien.ac.at will remain accessible. Existing links will work as usual and shares will be preserved.

What needs to be done?

• Desktop client: We recommend switching to the official Nextcloud desktop client as soon as possible to ensure seamless operation (instructions). The existing client will continue to work, but compatibility issues are to be expected.
• Mobile Apps: Please use the ‘Nextcloud Files’ app (Android (Google Play) | iOS (App Store) | Desktop client (Windows) | Further installation options). The existing OwnCloud app is not compatible with Nextcloud.
