New transatlantic line getting into service

Hello everybody.

This is to notify you that tomorrow a new DANTE US line is going into
service. It will originate at Amsterdam1.dante.net and terminate at a new
router in New York (New-York1.dante.net), which will have a direct
connection to NSFnet (AS690).

This change concerns EuropaNET regionals which are now using the E1 as
primary for US. Initially, routing might be asymmetric to some US
destinations, but given the current load on the E1, the new line should
still improve overall networking performance considerably. Please keep in
mind that we are still aiming for one big line instead several small ones,
so this should be seen as an interim step rather than a definitive
solution.

Once the line is up, we have to work on the load sharing between the two
lines, so that we might have to change weights to certain destinations.

We will monitor routing during the weekend as well, so that there should be
no major implications. In case you notice any abnormalities or routing
problems, please contact nmc@dante.org.uk.
