Microsoft license changes

Microsoft has changed some of its licenses, so you need to make adjustments

Dear employees!

A1 (Ms teams) Licenses

We would like to point out that, in accordance with Microsoft's license terms, the Office 365 A1 licenses are intended exclusively for certain user groups. These include visiting professors, short-term employees, affiliates and external users. Permanent staff who work at TU Wien on a long-term basis must use an A3 license in accordance with Microsoft. This requirement serves to ensure license compliance and to enable full use of Microsoft Office 365 features.

If you are currently using an A1 license, we kindly ask you to switch to an A3 license as soon as possible. This is necessary to ensure compliance with the license terms while providing you with full access to the extensive features and tools of Microsoft Office 365.

To do this, you need to cancel the existing A1 license and order the new A3 license. This is described in the TUshop manual under:

Ms SQL

Please note that all SQL servers in use at TU Wien must be properly licensed. In the event of a random inspection by Microsoft, the respective organizational unit or structural element is liable for any financial losses resulting from inadequate licensing.

Likewise, it must be ensured that the servers are not only licensed, but also equipped with the correct edition (Standard or Enterprise). You can find details about the editions at:

We therefore recommend that you check the licensing of your servers and ensure that they meet the requirements. The reason for this change lies in the high costs of the flat-rate MSSQL server licenses. The aim is to enable a more transparent cost presentation and billing while introducing a new licensing option.

If you have any questions about the licenses or require assistance, the Campus IT Service Center will be happy to help.
